Biography

I have been taking photographs for as long as I can remember, but in 2002 I was able to turn my passion for photography into a full-time business. Since that time, I have photographed over 200 weddings and captured a much greater number of family portraits. I love what I do - capturing clients' most important life events, and freezing those moments in compelling still images. As a former nanny of over eight years, a wife, and a mom, I bring experience, familiarity (and empathy) to pregnancy, baby, child and family portrait photo shoots, as well as weddings.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Washington University in Theatre in 1991.  For years, I enjoyed working in the Seattle theater scene.  My adaptation of Burt (or When I Was Five I Killed Myself) by Howard Buten was produced in 2001 by Theatre Babylon and published by Rain City Projects.  I then moved into marketing research, in which I studied people.  With photography, I draw upon these influences and strive to capture the wonderful range of emotions that people experience, and their relationships with each other.

Some of my most rewarding work comes from volunteering my services to Soulumination. Soulumination, founded by Lynette Huffman Johnson, celebrates the lives of children and parents facing life threatening conditions by providing professional photographs--free of charge--of these special individuals and their families. The life-affirming photographs of Soulumination are an enduring, positive record of the child's brief life, and provide a loving legacy for the children of parents lost to terminal illness.

I currently live in Winterset, Iowa (about 20 miles south of West Des Moines) with my husband William, our son Hayden and our daughter Sylvia.  We recently moved here from Seattle, Washington, where I still photograph clients several times per year.  Be sure to stay posted on where I will be and when to book your family's next portrait session by following me on Facebook.
